Ex-Presidential Aide, Bashir Ahmad, Defends Buhari’s Record on Boko Haram
Bashir Ahmad, former media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, has disputed Senator Ali Ndume’s claim that former President Goodluck Jonathan defeated Boko Haram.
Ahmad pointed out that when Buhari took office in 2015, 17 local government areas in Borno State were under Boko Haram’s control. He added that large parts of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States were inaccessible due to terrorism.
“By the time President Buhari left office in 2023, Boko Haram had largely been defeated and technically became a thing of the past,” Ahmad said.
Ahmad’s response came after Ndume credited Jonathan for decimating Boko Haram. However, Ahmad emphasized that history cannot be rewritten, citing documented evidence of Buhari’s accomplishments.
Key Points:
- Boko Haram controlled 17 local government areas in Borno State when Buhari took office
- Large parts of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States were inaccessible due to terrorism
- Critical infrastructure was shut down
- Buhari’s administration largely defeated Boko Haram by 2023.
