President Bola Tinubu’s 64th Independence Day Speech
In his national broadcast on Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the need for reform, stating that the country must choose between progress and prosperity or risk collapse.
Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerians, including economic hardship and insecurity. He highlighted his administration’s efforts to address these issues, citing foreign direct investments worth over $30 billion and reduced debt service ratio.
The President announced several initiatives, including:
- Economic Stabilisation Bills to stimulate productive capacity and job creation.
- ExxonMobil Seplat divestment approval.
- Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas for mass transit.
- Assistance to states for acquiring CNG buses.
- Implementation of Local Government autonomy.
Tinubu commended governors embracing the agricultural production program and urged others to invest in mechanized farming. He listed achievements in improved security, including the elimination of over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders.
The President sympathized with victims of natural disasters and announced a Disaster Relief Fund. He also announced a 30-day National Youth Conference to address challenges and opportunities confronting young people.
Tinubu honored notable individuals, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, with national awards.
