Edo Election: APC Responds to PDP’s Protest at INEC Office
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Benin.
The PDP rejected the September 21 governorship election results, alleging manipulation. INEC declared APC’s Senator Monday Okpebholo the winner with 291,667 votes, defeating PDP’s Asue Ighodalo, who received 247,274 votes.
On Wednesday, PDP members marched to INEC’s office, bearing banners and chanting slogans. Security agencies ensured the protesters remained at a distance.
APC’s Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, mocked the PDP, stating that protests wouldn’t change the election outcome. “They should approach the tribunal with evidence,” he said.
PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi led the protest, calling on INEC to declare Ighodalo the winner. He claimed the party would present overwhelming evidence to the tribunal.
The APC urged the PDP to seek redress through the tribunal, emphasizing that protests wouldn’t alter the results.
