Nigeria Confirms No Citizen Casualties in Israel-Hezbollah Crisis
The Nigerian government has assured that no citizens have been harmed or killed in the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this in a statement, emphasizing efforts to protect Nigerians in the region.
The government has initiated evacuation plans and advised Nigerians to voluntarily leave Lebanon as early as August 2024. Commercial flights were still available at the time. Nigerian citizens in southern Lebanon have been relocated to safer areas like Beirut with community leaders’ assistance.
The conflict worsened after Iran launched missile attacks on Israel, prompting Nigeria to ramp up evacuation efforts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reassured Nigerians that the government is engaging stakeholders and prioritizing citizens’ safety.
The Israeli Defence Forces reported intercepting 180 ballistic missiles launched by Iran. Nigeria’s President urged citizens in Lebanon to contact the Nigerian mission for profiling, documentation, and evacuation.
