The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, has rejected Nnamdi Kanu’s request to reassign his case to another judge.

Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had expressed loss of confidence in his trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako, and requested her recusal.

Justice Nyako agreed to send Kanu’s case file back to the Chief Judge for reassignment. However, Justice Tsoho returned the file to Justice Nyako, citing the case’s prolonged nature since 2015.

Two other judges had previously been recused, and Justice Nyako was deemed the most suitable to see the case through.

Justice Tsoho directed Kanu to file a written motion on notice with an affidavit detailing grounds for recusal if he insists. Kanu must serve it on the prosecution team and appear before Justice Nyako for review.

Kanu’s counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the development and awaits an official notice and new hearing date.
