President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been called upon to resolve the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, made this plea following the Appeal Court’s ruling reinstating Martins Amaewhule as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Eze argued that Amaewhule and 26 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC automatically vacated their seats under Section 109(1)(g) of the Nigerian Constitution.

The Appeal Court’s decision dismissed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s appeal against an earlier Federal High Court judgment nullifying the 2024 Rivers State Budget passed by pro-Fubara lawmakers.

Eze expressed concerns that the crisis persists due to manipulation of the judicial process for political gain. He emphasized the need for clarity, citing the ongoing legal battles.
