Gunmen Assassinate APC Youth Leader in Ogun State
Tragedy struck in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, as unidentified gunmen suspected to be cultists assassinated Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate in Ward 15. The incident occurred on Saturday at Jide Jones area of Oke-Ilewo.
According to reports, the assailants arrived in a tinted car, shot Adeleke, and then hit him with stones until he died. The police confirmed the murder, stating it happened at 12:30 p.m.
Adeleke, 40, was a former All Progressives Congress (APC) youth leader in Abeokuta South and a member of the transport union in Panseke area. He was described as an amazing fellow who served his people wholeheartedly.
The Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the killing and stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The APC Youth Leaders’ forum in the state expressed sadness over the brutal murder, describing it as senseless and horrific.
The forum demanded a thorough investigation and called on the relevant authorities to ensure justice is served. They also urged the police to increase patrols and security measures in the affected areas to prevent further violence.
Adeleke’s death has left the community shaken and grieving. The police have taken photos of the crime scene, and normalcy has been restored to the area. The family has requested the body for burial.
