Jigawa Police Arrest 26-Year-Old Man for Setting Grandma Ablaze
A disturbing incident occurred in Mu’azu village, Dan Gwanki ward, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area, Jigawa State, where a 26-year-old man, Nura Mas’ud, allegedly set his 60-year-old grandmother, Zuwaira Muhammad, on fire.
The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the arrest and provided details of the incident. On October 8, 2024, at around 4 pm, Nura poured petrol on his grandmother and ignited it. The victim succumbed to her injuries while being hospitalized.
The police swiftly arrested Nura, who confessed to the crime during interrogation. Preliminary investigations revealed that Nura suffers from mental illness and has been receiving treatment at Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital.
According to Nura, his grandmother’s concerns about his physical appearance and health triggered the incident. Despite warnings, she persisted, leading him to purchase gasoline and commit the heinous act.
The State Commissioner of Police, A.T. Abdullahi, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to thoroughly investigate and prosecute Nura to serve as a deterrent.
