The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to reverse the recent petrol price increase until the Federal High Court rules on the legality of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) price hike.

SERAP filed a lawsuit last month challenging the price increase and alleging corruption and mismanagement within NNPCL.

The organization argues that the latest price hike undermines the court case and jeopardizes justice.

SERAP Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare stated, “Allowing the court to hear and determine the case would be consistent with the Nigerian Constitution and President Tinubu’s oath to uphold the rule of law.”

The price increase, from N897 to N1,030 per liter, follows a previous hike from N600 to N855 per liter.

SERAP also highlighted allegations of corruption within NNPCL, including unremitted funds and unclear oil revenues.
