Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has written to the National Assembly, stating that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was “unconstitutionally established.” Agbakoba cited constitutional hurdles hindering the fight against corruption.

In letters to the Senate and House of Representatives, Agbakoba argued that the EFCC’s powers exceed the National Assembly’s authority. He welcomed states’ plans to contest the agency’s constitutionality, saying it would resolve validity questions.

Agbakoba urged the Senate to convene a public hearing to address constitutional issues and strengthen law enforcement and anti-corruption frameworks. The Supreme Court has previously sanctioned the EFCC for its conduct.
