Ex-Minister Warns of Looming Anarchy Due to Hunger, Asks Tinubu to Reconsider Policies
Abuja, Nigeria – October 16, 2024
Former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Nduese Essien, has urged President Bola Tinubu to reassess his economic policies, citing widespread hunger and discontent among Nigerians.
Essien criticized the removal of fuel subsidies and other policies, stating they exacerbate poverty and inflation, leaving millions struggling. He emphasized the need for fiscal discipline while ensuring citizens’ burdens are eased.
“The level of suffering is unprecedented… Families struggle to meet basic needs. Policies are worsening poverty, inflation, and hurting the vulnerable,” Essien warned.
He cautioned that continued inaction may lead to dire consequences, urging the government to balance fiscal deficit reduction with citizen welfare.
This development follows growing concerns over Nigeria’s economic situation and calls for policy adjustments.
