PANDEF Forms Committee to Resolve Wike, Fubara Conflict
The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has established a High-Level Peace and Reconciliation Committee to address the ongoing tensions between Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The committee, headed by former Akwa Ibom State Governor Obong Victor Attah, aims to resolve regional issues and restore peace in the Niger Delta [1).
Committee Members
- Senator Emmanuel Ibok-Essien
- Senator Stella Omu
PANDEF’s Objective
PANDEF spokesperson Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini confirmed that the committee would work to resolve regional issues and restore peace. The group called on all levels of government and local organizations to support PANDEF’s efforts, believing that the initiative would comprehensively address the sources of tension across the South-South geopolitical zone in the country.
Background of the Conflict
The conflict between Wike and Fubara stems from a power struggle, leading to divisions in the state house of assembly and incidents of violence. Asari Dokubo, a Niger Delta activist, has accused President Bola Tinubu of supporting Wike in the conflict, warning that removing Fubara would have severe consequences ¹ ².
