National Economic Council Advises Presidency to Withdraw Tax Reform Bill
The National Economic Council, comprising Nigerian Governors Forum members, has urged the presidency to withdraw the Tax Reforms Bill from the National Assembly. The council seeks wider consultations and consensus among stakeholders.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde stated that the bill’s withdrawal was resolved at the National Economic Council meeting. The Federal Government aims to enhance efficiency and eliminate redundancies in tax operations, but northern elites oppose the reforms.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced measures to decentralize the national grid, including mini-grids, solar, and renewable energy sources. He emphasized the urgent need for implementing the Nigeria Energy Sector Implementation Plan and leveraging renewable energy.
