OGSIEC Chairman: No Obligation to Consult Parties Before Setting Election Date
Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, has stated that the commission is not required to consult political parties or candidates before fixing election dates.
Osibodu cited a recent High Court ruling in Abeokuta, which upheld OGSIEC’s authority to set election dates and conduct local government elections.
The chairman assured that the commission is committed to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections across the state’s 236 wards.
Sixteen political parties, including the PDP and Labour Party, had challenged OGSIEC’s administrative charges and timetable.
OGSIEC remains open to dialogue and collaboration with stakeholders while adhering to legal frameworks guiding its operations.
