President Bola Tinubu Advises Edo Governor Okpebholo to Empower Legislature
President Bola Tinubu has urged newly sworn-in Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to empower the legislative arm of government and other institutions. This advice comes after Okpebholo’s inauguration, where Tinubu congratulated him on taking office.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of a robust and independent legislature in achieving democratic good governance. He noted that the previous administration’s attempts to undermine the legislative branch hindered its effectiveness during Godwin Obaseki’s tenure.
The President also encouraged Governor Okpebholo to enhance the living standards of Edo State citizens and make a significant impact during his tenure. Okpebholo took over from Obaseki after winning the September 21, 2024 governorship election.
Additionally, Tinubu commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a successful Edo governorship election. He encouraged INEC to strive for excellence in the upcoming Ondo governorship election, scheduled for November 16, 2024.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the inauguration in Benin City.
