APC did not participate in Zamfara LG election but scored more votes – Chieftain, Umar

Abdulahi Umar, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, has questioned the legitimacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winning all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the state’s local government elections. Umar claims the PDP chairmen are only governing party members, not the entire population, as they weren’t properly elected according to the Electoral Act ¹.

Umar’s statement comes after the APC reportedly didn’t participate in the election but allegedly scored more votes in all local government areas. He attributes the APC’s 2023 general election loss to internal party issues, vowing that these mistakes will be addressed before the 2027 elections.

The APC’s loss in Zamfara isn’t unprecedented. In 2019, the Supreme Court nullified the election of APC candidates in Zamfara due to the party’s failure to conduct primaries, leading to PDP candidates taking over ¹.

Umar’s assertions highlight the ongoing tensions between the APC and PDP in Zamfara State.
